Who are TextWorkshops for?

TextWorkshop offers a range of workshops to suit your writing needs.

If you write text for visitors, TextWorkshops are for you, whether you’re an interpreter, curator, educator, exhibition developer, researcher, editor or designer. We welcome participants from science museums and centres, art museums and galleries, heritage centres, local and national museums and visitor attractions.

During an interactive and fast-paced programme, you will write and discuss text, learn new interpretation skills, gain individual feedback and participate in group exercises.

A day-long programme with TextWorkshops typically includes:

  • Introduction: What Am I Doing Here?
  • Session 1: Messages - Getting them straight, getting them right
  • Session 2: Panels - Information or inspiration?
  • Session 3: Ten Top Text-Writing Tips
  • Session 4: Audiences - Who are you writing for?
  • Session 5: Labels - Bringing objects to life
  • Conclusion: Make it Happen!

Media TextWorkshop

If you write press releases, develop media strategies, work in audience development, organise media campaigns, help publicise and promote your exhibitions or projects – or would like to do any of these things – then Media TextWorkshop is for you. We welcome participants from museums and galleries, science museums and centeres, heritage centres, local and national museums, visitor attractions, audience development agencies, tourist boards, visitors organizations and agencies which promote the arts.

During an interactive and fast-paced programme, you will write learn how to publicise your exhibition, gallery or venue to maximum effect.

A day-long Media TextWorkshop programme typically includes:

  • Introduction: What Am I Doing Here?
  • Session 1: What’s hot today? Discovering how and why stories happen
  • Session 2: Your Story. What do you want to say about your exhibition?
  • Session 3: Your Audience. To whom do you want to tell your story?
  • Session 4: Writing a Press Release
  • Session 5: Creating a Press Pack
  • Session 6: ‘My Most Successful Media Campaign’ – a visiting Press Guru tells us how it’s done
  • Session 7: Creating a Contacts List
  • Session 8: Now - Pitch Me Your Story
  • Conclusion: Make it Happen!
